BILLY COUNCIL

William Council, professionally and affectionately known as “Coach Billy” is a 20 years plus veteran of the legendary New York City basketball circuit. This Harlem native developed his passion for the sport as a young athlete, and has since devoted the past 17 years of his life to instilling values, morals and discipline in today’s youth through the art of basketball and community service.

Mr. Council currently oversees the Goodwill Industries International (New York) Farragut Cornerstone Community Center, a school-based community services support program aimed at assisting children 6 years or older, and adults residing in Brooklyn NY .

He works diligently to develop and design special events and activities; in addition to marketing, public education, outreach, and community mobilization strategies aimed at cultivating relationships with local service providers and program partners, as well as increasing involvement and visibility in the community served.

Throughout the course of Mr. Council’s career he has had the pleasure of cultivating special events, creative-projects, sponsorships opportunities, as well as developing and implementing community partnerships, initiatives, and educational and athletic programs in collaboration with: The New Renaissance Basketball Association a.k.a “The Rens”, of which he co-founded in 2012; Bishop Loughlin High School (Brooklyn, NY); Mission Society; Catholic Charities; St. Francis College; Fast Break Kids Basketball; Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club National Action Network (NAN); Nike; Adidas; and Nickelodeon Networks.

More recently, “Coach Billy” has added film producer to his resume. In 2015, along with Director and Executive Producer Crystal McCrary, and Executive Producers musician Lupe Fiasco and NBA star Amaré Stoudemire he co-produced and starred in the critically acclaimed Nickelodeon documentary, “Little Ballers”, a film that focuses on the dreams and challenges of four young men as they embark on the road to winning a AAU National Championship. The film recently received a 2016 NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Children’s Programming.

Though coaching is where William “Coach Billy” Council’s passion meets his purpose, he aspires to leave a greater impact on the Harlem community that he holds so dear. He is currently developing a non- profit community based outreach organization aimed at grooming Harlem’s youth to become educated, service oriented, professionals with the desire to uplift, and plant the seeds of success in their own community.
