KEVIN SHAW
2016 honoree
In 1995, K. Shaw opened up a twelve-seat unisex salon in the Bronx called HEADQUARTERS where he was introduced to hosting parties. He use to help his cousin Ed Bush sell tickets for Dennis and Butch from Sparkle Entertainment. In the year 2000, while him and some of his friends prepared to host a New Year’s Eve party was when Flavor Entertainment was birthed.
Utilizing his street savvy and business relationships he had developed in the community, he was able to average 150-200 tickets sold at each event. Eager to be successful in the party scene, he was inspired to set out on his own. His first solo hosted party was at Inwood Manor on 215th St. and Broadway. He hired Reggie Wells as his DJ, and the rest was history.
After having successful events at The World Roseland Ballroom, and on a 1200 passenger cruise yacht called Cornucopia, Flavor Entertainment had flourished into the only event in New York City where you could buy a ticket that covered the entire night. For example, Flavor Entertainment had an event on January 31st 2016 called The Total Package Five. In an effort to raise the bar from parties to all-inclusive events, Flavor Entertainment presented an R&B show featuring Johnny Gill and Vivian Green, a complimentary soul food buffet, open bar (top-shelf, premium alcohol) for six hours, along with an after party with Harlem’s own Danny Dee as DJ. That event cleared over 1100 people.
After losing his beloved son, Kevin Shaw Jr., him and his family have started the K.S. Jr. Scholarship Foundation. All his energy is directed to doing events, to help build up the foundation and present scholarships to the high school seniors to further their education
