DAROLD THOMPSON-FERGUSON (D-FERG)

Darold Thompson-Ferguson, on of New York City’s most talented silk screen artists, was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on December 15, 1963. He was the eldest son of Maisha Thompson. D-Ferg made a significant impact on the lives of so many through his involvement in community activities. His unwavering commitment was expressed wherever he found himself – whether sponsoring children’s events or supporting cultural/social development of young people and senior citizens alike.
D-Ferg graduated from the Art and Design High School. He then went on to pursue a degree at New York Technical College, majoring in Advertising Arts. In addition, he spent several years as an apprentice under the guidance and skillful direction of Mr. Edwin Scott. That apprenticeship enhanced his artistic potential, helping him to develop skills that led to numerous awards.
D-Ferg was the creator and owner of Ferg54, a clothing line and store, and was the artist behind some of the music industry’s well-known logos. His real exposure came when he designed the logo for Andre Harrel and his record label, Uptown Records. Subsequently, he worked on many other projects including: The Cosby Show, Terry Cohens, Sean Combs and Shaquille O’Neal. D-Ferg is also the man behind the “R” in the Ruff Ryders logo.
On October 17, 2003, D-Ferg died from complications of kidney disease. Throughout his life he touched many with his passion, artistic charisma, and visionary leadership. He was a mentor and had a special connection with the children of the community.
