DERRICK “VITO” JONES
Derrick Jerome Jones commonly referred to as Vito has been a community activist for the better part of 15 years primarily involved in the preservation of “The Old Harlem” with emphasis on Harlem’s history and culture. Having studied at Mercy and Dutches community colleges and a certificate from John Jay College of Criminal Justice along with an abundance of street knowledge, he has become a force to be reckoned with and a voice to be heard. Vito has become an advocate for the people in his community and enjoys helping others.
Entrepreneurship is something that he has captured decades ago having started his first business in 1982 which led to several in years to come. With awards and plaques from United States Senators, local politicians and community organizations which he is most proud of, he exemplifies all that is Harlem and remains humble. Vito’s current project is a ten part documentary series about Harlem, NY during the Harlem heroin epidemic that took place in the 60s and 70s. With all of his accomplishments he continues to thrive and work hard at becoming the ultimate humanitarian.
